Apps, hacks and more to make housework easier

Now that summer is here, we all want to enjoy quality time with family and friends, relax at the beach or kick back in the garden rather than slaving away in the kitchen or cleaning the house. Having said that, a clean and organised home can also give a lot of joy – it’s just that maintaining it takes time.

Thankfully, there are now a multitude of blogs and apps that can make running your home easier and less stressful. Here are a few to try that will get you through your domestic chores more quickly and give you plenty of time to get to the beach – or the backyard hammock.

Recipe Tin Eats

The recipes that everyone is talking about this summer! Nagi is a food blogger based in the northern suburbs of Sydney with a knack for creating dishes that everyone loves, using readily available ingredients.

Her blog, Recipe Tin Eats, is full of fast, easy ideas and recipes that are both quick and delicious. Her new cookbook is on everyone’s Christmas list this year, too.

You might want to try some of the recipes in her Quick and Easy category such as Honey Soy Wings, Chilli Lime Fish or just some ten-minute fried rice.

Rock the Housework

Gemma Bray is from the UK and is better known as The Organised Mum, and her popular new podcast, Rock the Housework, takes you through your cleaning tasks in a guided fashion. For example, her guided after-dinner clean up will only take you 20 minutes and includes relaxing music, which makes it almost effortless. Do it tonight and you’ll be grateful to yourself in the morning.

There are some free guided cleans on her website, or you can sign up for a small monthly subscription to get access to the full list of podcasts. These will make your chores much more enjoyable and you’ll learn some valuable tips.

Life Admin Hacks

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with all those admin tasks and paperwork that you have to deal with as a part of life, you’ll love Life Admin Hacks. This podcast is presented by two Melbourne women, Dinah and Mia, who both have busy jobs, families and a home to run and have come up with all kinds of ways to make life run more smoothly.

Support local businesses to save time and stress

Another easy way to save time is to shop local. Not only will this save you time by not having to travel too far but it’s also great for the local economy.

One of our favourite local businesses is Bundlfresh, which offers a variety of vendors from butchers, greengrocers, and bakers to delicatessens and seafood suppliers. All you have to do is shop from each category and Bundlfresh will collate your entire order and deliver all your fresh goodies directly to your home. Now that’s the optimum in stress-free shopping.

Is there anything you would really love to outsource around the house?

Sometimes, outsourcing household tasks such as window cleaning, ironing or gardening is the best option. After all, if you can afford to, it often makes sense to pay a professional to do routine tasks such as window washing rather than spending a whole day doing them yourself.

A good way to find some services locally is to join a Facebook noticeboard for your suburb. Many local small businesses will advertise their services, or you can ask for recommendations from your neighbours about who they use to make life easier.
