Let’s move to Frenchs Forest

Frenchs Forest is a wonderful place to live, with shops, the beach, national parkland, Chatswood and the CBD all easily accessible. There’s lots of green space to keep the kids active, good public transport options and a choice of excellent primary and secondary schools.
It’s no wonder that when people move here, they often stay for years. Here are some key things to know about real estate in Frenchs Forest.

Location

Close enough to Sydney for easy access to the city’s amenities, yet far enough away to enjoy a quieter, suburban lifestyle, Frenchs Forest is 13 kilometres north of the Sydney’s CBD.

Known as The Forest by locals, the suburb was relatively rural until the mid-twentieth century, and remains leafy and tranquil. Its elevated position means there are ocean views in the eastern parts and views of Sydney and Chatswood in the west. It’s also close to Garigal National Park, where you’ll find walking trails, bike trails, lots of wildlife and evidence of the area’s traditional owners, the Dharug people, in rock art, engravings and middens.

The drive into the city can be done in as little as twenty minutes via Eastern Valley Way, or across the Spit Bridge through Mosman. Or you can jump on the 271 bus, which takes under an hour at peak times. The Pacific Highway up to Newcastle is also handy for heading north for holidays and weekend trips up the coast.

Chatswood is also close by via public transport or by car for work, shopping and services, and the Northern Beaches Hospital is a short drive away. Frenchs Forest is now on track to become a strategic centre based around this hospital, meaning a raft of new housing and improved public transport planned for the area – which is good news for those who wish to downsize but would like to stay in the area.

Schools and other amenities

Local primary schools include Frenchs Forest Public School, Mimosa Public School and Forestville Montessori School,

High schools include Davidson and The Forest High School, while Arranounbai Public School supports students with additional needs from kindergarten through to year 12.

For shopping, there’s Forestway Shopping Centre, with supermarkets and more than 50 shops. Smaller shopping and dining strips are found on Sorlie Road and Frenchs Forest Road East. Other popular local establishments include the Glen Street Theatre and the Forest Hotel.

The Frenchs Forest town centre development proposal will see a new shopping mall and aquatic centre and new apartments, further enhancing the area’s appeal.

The area also boasts many community run sporting clubs, and there are some beautiful beaches, including Dee Why, a short drive away for weekends.

What about the real estate?

Frenchs Forest boasts many stunning family homes, including mid-century gems, some in original condition from the 1980s, others modernised or newly built for comfortable family life. Many have pools and sweeping decks for taking in the elevated views.

There were 146 houses sold here in 2024, with properties spending an average of just 30 days on the market. Increasingly we’re seeing buyers moving to Frenchs Forest from the inner city, drawn to the schools, relaxed pace and friendly community.

New apartments in the town centre, some designed specifically for downsizers, mean that those who want to continue living here without the upkeep of a big family home can do so.
