This December, why not support local businesses as much as you can when you’re doing your Christmas shopping?
Time is running out to order things online and you can’t always be sure they will reach you before Christmas Day, so we have pulled together a list of some popular Northern Beaches retailers that just may have the gift you are looking for.
We love to keep it local! Here are some places to do your 2023 Christmas shopping:
Where to shop on the Northern Beaches this Christmas
First stop: Warringah Mall, where you will find all the major chain stores including Myer, Kmart, Big W and David Jones. Dee Why Grand and Warriewood Square are other good spots to find the stores you like in one place and catch up on some Christmas shopping.
If you want some more boutique-style shops, the high streets of suburbs like Avalon, Mona Vale, Newport Manly and Freshwater have lots of gorgeous locally-owned businesses that are full of treats and treasures.
These are some of the ones we will be checking out in the pre-Christmas period:
Fashion
One Teaspoon is an Aussie-owned and NSW-based brand with stores in Byron Bay and Manly and an outlet store in Brookvale. They focus on old-school rock ‘n’ roll glamour for women and kids. One Teaspoon has been dressing Northern Beaches residents for more than 21 years and their clothes make the perfect gift for the fashion-conscious woman or child in your life.
For a more laid-back, boho meets beachy style, drop by mamapapa on Avalon Beach. With stunning fashion for women and kids as well as plenty of homewares, mamapapa will help you cross off a few names on your Christmas gifts list.
In Allambie Heights, Miss Lilly offers lovely women’s clothing, gifts, jewellery and flowers, making it a wonderful one-stop shop. There is even a Christmas wreath making course on December 12 where you can enjoy a glass of bubbles and make a wreath of fresh natives and foliage – check the website for more details.
Homewares and furniture
Vampt Vintage Design: If you have loved ones who love some vintage cool, Vampt Vintage Design specialises in importing and revamping vintage, mid-century furniture and homewares from around the world. From chairs to tables to sofas to sideboards, Vampt has all these and more for an amazing and unique Christmas surprise.
Named after the owners’ fur babies, Gigi & Tom are a Northern Beaches-based, female-owned company that sells on-trend home fashion without the designer price tag. An excellent place to go Christmas shopping this year to pick up a few Christmas gifts for your loved ones, Gigi & Tom are like a shoppable interiors magazine with their ever-rotating range.
Jewellery
With a wide range of in-store jewellery as well as the option to commission a bespoke piece, Natalie Marie Jewellery (NMJ) in Avalon is a locally owned business dedicated to quality. Along with dedication to jewellery as both art and investment, the team at NMJ is equally committed to sustainability, so if you are looking for a special piece for a loved one this Christmas, NMJ is a top choice.
Stapleton Jewellers has been a family-run business on the Northern Beaches since 1972. Setting up shop in Warriewood Square in 1997, they have long been selling high-quality jewellery and offer design and redesign. They also repair jewellery, so perhaps restoring a treasured old piece for a loved one might be a unique gift this Christmas.
Books
Berkelouw Bookstore: They may have started in Holland, but the Berkelouw family has long been established as one of Sydney’s best sellers of new, secondhand, and rare books. Need a more budget-conscious gift? Head to Shiny Owl Books in Mona Vale. Find something a little more left of centre than the top sellers in the chain bookstores to surprise your loved ones this year.
Beers & Brews
Manly Spirits, a locally based distillery has a tasting bar and offers distillery tours. Their selection includes gin, vodka, whisky and pre-mixed drinks.
Keep it local with a selection from a home-grown, locally-owned brewery. Choose from the following:
