Classic Christmas gift ideas for the home

There’s still time to buy some thoughtful gifts, even if you’ve left it late this year. We’ve put together some picks for all members of your household, from kids to grownups, with a focus on quality and style.

For the homemaker

If you haven’t yet gotten an air fryer, check out the Breville Air Fryer Chef Plus. With functions ranging from dehydrating fruit to roasting a whole chicken, this will keep the cook in your household busy – and everyone else eating good food – well into the new year.

Also popular this year are these vintage-style pastel Bialetti stovetop coffee pots – choose the one that best suits your kitchen.

Australian brand Aesop does some great gift sets at this time of year that will always be well-received. This four-piece gift box is created specifically for the home entertainer and comes in a cinema-inspired box. And there’s a branch at Warringah Mall, so you don’t need to travel into the city for this one.

For the tweens and teens

Water bottles, the bigger the better, are this year’s trend for older kids. We like these Frank Green ceramic ones, which are long-lasting, hold an entire litre of chilled water, and look good. Kids also love Stanley bottles, which are made of recycled stainless steel and claim to keep your drink cold for two whole days.

For your younger readers, it’s hard to go past the last Dog Man and Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.

For the bookworm in your life

This year has seen some of Australia’s most popular writers release new books. Tim Winton’s Juice is a thriller set a few hundred years into the future.

Meanwhile, Helen Garner has written, The Season, a memoir about her grandson’s football season from the sidelines, which anyone who has been involved in community sport will love.

From overseas, there’s the Booker-Prize winning, and now best-selling Orbital by Samatha Harvey, which follows an orbit of the earth from the perspective of astronauts in the space station. And Liane Moriarty fans will no double be carrying Here One Moment to the beach this summer.

For the homelover, there’s The Poetry of Spaces by Australian designer Sarah Andrews, which is sure to provide plenty of new-year inspiration.

You’ll find all of these and many more at Dymocks and Harry Hartog in Warringah Mall.

For the person who’s hard to buy for

Made right here in Sydney, these Hunter candles look great, smell wonderful and come in a range of scents, from Australian gum to rose peony, meaning you are sure to find one that will please your recipient.

Or buy them a chocolate hamper from Sydney chocolate makers Adora. They have a range of Christmas gifts, including Christmas Eve hampers, and delivery is free for all orders over $80.

For the plant addict

A potted plant always makes a great gift, and you can combine your Christmas shopping with picking up supplies to perk up your own garden if you’re hosting. Four Seasons Nursery in Brookvale has a big range of plants including natives, indoor plants and frangipanis, along with pots to suit any garden style.

And if you’d like to donate to a good cause

This year’s cookbook is without question Northern Beaches local, Nagi Maehashi’s Tonight. Speaking of Nagi, her One Meal charity arm in Brookvale provides thousands of hot meals, hampers, fruit and vegetables and breakfast packs for kids across the Northern Beaches every week. This Christmas, One Meal is putting together Christmas hampers – you can donate to the cause here.
